The Staff Attorney - Operations / Sr. Staff Attorney - Operations is responsible for general day-to-day support of various operational departments. Primary responsibilities generally include contract drafting and negotiation (e.g., leases and surface use agreements), legal research, and other general legal work. Primary operational departments supported includeLand, Permitting & Civil, Midstream and EHS.

Responsibilities: In coordination with more senior members of the Legal-Operations team, providing legal support on a wide range of matters, including:

  • Daily support of operational needs, such as language interpretations, document drafting and negotiations for leases, mineral and/or surface purchases, surface use agreements, right-of-way agreements, and more.
  • Assisting operational teams in reviewing and responding to regulatory violations and assessments.
  • Analyzing and responding to pre-litigation disputes and claims.
  • Assisting community-facing departments in ordinance reviews, audits and disputes.
  • Staying current on relevant oil and gas law and related legal issues.
  • Recognizing and evaluating legal risks associated with business decisions and effectively communicating those risks to the relevant operational team(s).

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of relevant legal experience in oil and gas operational matters
  • Bachelor's Degree, plus a Juris Doctorate
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills and outstanding academic credentials
  • Knowledge oflaws, rules, and regulations affecting upstream and/or midstream oil and gas operations in the Appalachian Basin
  • Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities in an effective manner by leveraging robust adaptability, multi-tasking, and time management skill sets.
  • High degree of initiative, attention to detail and accuracy, timeliness and ability to work independently as wellas part of a team

Preferred Experience:

  • Upstream and/or Midstream oil and gas experience
  • Utilization of technology to monitor and execute workload

Remote work is being considered for this role, excluding the following states: Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York unless willing to relocate.

Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their abilities and experience level.
