DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accountant 1, your will be responsible for auditing statutory compliance for a variety of restricted credit programs and assist with the preparation of various financial reports. This work is essential for our accountability to the legislature, other agencies, and the general public. You will analyze and evaluate all financial transactions posted to corporate ledger accounts, with an emphasis on identifying errors and ensuring compliance with division objectives, statutory requirements, and department objectives.

Other responsibilities include maintaining written narratives of all division operating procedures, providing recommendations for improvements to existing systems, and serving as liaison to other divisions, bureaus, and agencies to promote efficiency for new or existing restricted credit programs. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are a choice between 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 60-minute lunch, or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch, Monday - Friday.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with one day per month required in office. In office training may be required. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program; or
  • One year as a Financial Programs Trainee; or
  • One year as a Fiscal Technician, and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, or York counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
