We're looking for an elite, DoD Clearance-eligible, system administrator to help build and maintain reliable safety-critical networks. We need a technology-focused team member who has experience with both Windows and Linux operating systems, security management, and backup recovery. You'll manage sensitive and secure networks and help enable the software development team to solve difficult software problems that our government faces.

What you'll do
  • Perform administration duties for Microsoft Windows 10/11 workstations and Windows Server 2016/2019 servers, Redhat Enterprise Linux 9, and Ubuntu 22.

  • Perform IT customer support (helpdesk) functions including troubleshooting, ticket resolution, and data transfers.

  • Perform basic configuration control and installation functions related to adding new clients to existing networks.

  • Assist in configuring computers, installing software, creating, and maintaining file sharing capability and electronic mail, and diagnosing hardware and software operational issues to include troubleshooting network problems and implementing patches and fixes to solve network issues.

  • Assist in hardening Microsoft and Linux operating system workstations and servers. Perform security functions such as vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and creation of backups for critical data in accordance with JSIG and Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Perform backup and restore for systems and servers.

  • Perform administrative support, and user training on VTC systems.

Who you are

  • A BS degree in a technical field with 3 to 10 years relevant experience. (MS preferred).

  • Candidate must possess a current Security+ CE certification sponsored by Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) in compliance with DoD 8570.1-M.

  • Be able to show progress toward timely completion of Continuous Education to maintain the certification. Candidate Preferred Skills: Network cabling installation & termination (CAT-5/6 & Fiber-optic SC/LC connectors).

  • Proficient in client configuration and user account administration.

  • Experience with troubleshooting desktop operating systems and network connectivity issues, as well as application support.

  • Proficient in hands-on administration of Microsoft Windows-based systems (e.g., group policy, security settings, registry settings, etc.), as well as RedHat Enterprise Linux systems.

  • Experience installing, configuring, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and patching/fixing networks.

  • Experience with configuring one or more of the following: VMware, Microsoft Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System(DNS), and Active Directory; Microsoft Exchange; networking computing systems (hardware and software) over a wide range of network topologies, including special point-to-point, Wide Area, and Local Area; knowledge of network systems architectures and client/server computing modes; information security issues as applied to maintaining system availability, confidentiality, and data integrity.

  • Be extremely well organized and capable of working in a highly classified/complex computer environment.

  • Able to work well with others. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Experience with patch management utilizing SCCM/WSUS Security Controls and continuous monitoring of systems and servers. Experience with Trellix EPO server to include definition files deployment for network and stand-alone systems.

  • Experience with SCAP, STIG and vulnerability scanners tools.

  • Must have advanced DOD program experience.

  • Computer hardware installation and configuration required on a regular basis, sometimes involving transport of heavy objects (typically under 100 lbs.) short distances, use of hand tools, et cetera. Carrying of light objects (< 20 lbs.) for longer distances (intra-campus; 2-3 city blocks) may also be required.

  • You are willing to work 100% of your week onsite at either an SEI or customer facility, with evening/weekend hours may be periodically required in order to perform service outside of normal operating hours, however rare.

  • You can pass a background check and obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense security clearance.

  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.

  • You're willing to travel (25%) outside your office location to other SEI offices, sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings.
