Water Resources Engineering is a core practice at JMT. We are looking to grow, adding the best and brightest to our teams. We have an exceptional team working diligently on improving a variety of infrastructure and resiliency projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and JMT's vast footprint. This team is looking for a driven, nimble, resourceful, and adaptive project engineer who is looking to learn, grow, and lead.

The Project Engineer will focus on hydrology and hydraulic studies but required to perform engineering design, watershed modeling, permitting, construction support, and inspection tasks. Candidates are expected to be well-versed across the water resources discipline. Demonstrating proficiency in drainage design, grading, erosion and sediment control design, stormwater management design, hydrology, and hydraulic modeling, permitting, utility coordination and clash detection, specification development, and quantity takeoffs. U.S. Residency Required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Familiar with Federal, State and local jurisdiction design standards and regulatory requirements
  • Understand the project lifecycle and design phases. They are expected to provide high quality deliverables in accordance with client specifications and requirements
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic studies using computer models, data research/capture following applicable standards and data capture protocols. Position will involve using a variety of software including, but not limited to: HEC-RAS, HEC GeoRAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, and ArcGIS. Projects may use both steady and unsteady computational modes
  • Prepare technical reports with profiles, tables, maps, and other modes to communicate technical results, data research, model development, and methodology meeting applicable standards
  • Complete FEMA Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA)
  • Candidates to be capable of completing design tasks including but not limited to:
    • Identify watersheds, drainage patterns, and soil conditions.
    • Delineate drainage areas to points of interest for analysis.
    • Complete land cover and time of concentration calculations
    • Perform Hydrologic and Hydraulic analysis of natural or existing stream, bridges, culverts and pipes, to establish water surface profiles showing flood frequency elevations, flow capacities and floodplain delineations, including the use of various computer programs.
    • Design and analysis stormwater management practices.
    • Design drainage networks including the pipe, slope, and outfall locations.
    • Complete permit applications for state and local agencies
    • Utilize general engineering principles and practices daily
    • Prepare technical reports of design approach, methodology, and summary of results.
    • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline with the established quality.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Capable of coordinating with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines is expected

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Experience
  • 8+ years of experience with Infrastructure and Resiliency projects.
  • Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Methodologies
  • Hydraulic Modeling experience using 1D/2D modeling software

Preferences Experience

  • Experience working in PA, OH, NJ, DE, and NY
  • Proficient in Microstation
  • Experience with ORD SUDA
  • Working knowledge of HEC-1, HEC-2, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, SWMM, PCSWMM, XPSWMM, ICPR, and/or SWMM.
  • Familiarity with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Studies, and technical guidelines
  • Experience utilizing FEMA's Cost Benefit Analysis (BCA) Tool
  • Dam and Levee Engineering including Accreditation

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 75% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Applicant will need a valid driver license and mode of transportation to occasionally conduct site visits, field investigations, or inspections.
