Instructional Designer, Math (6-12)

WHAT WE SEEK

The Instructional Designer, Math 6-12, assists the Director of Instructional Design, Math 6-12, with leading the instructional design for Carnegie Learning's middle and high school math solutions, which are currently used by nearly 600,000 students nationwide.

Carnegie Learning seeks a qualified individual to help build a digital forward mathematics suite using best practices in instructional design and innovation that support student achievement and instructor implementation. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Instructional Design, Math 6-12.

The Instructional Designer works with department staff, digital content developers, and editors to ensure that the secondary instructional resources provide students with an aligned and engaging educational experience. This position contributes to conceptualizing, prototyping, developing, and launching new products and features to improve the teacher and student experience with the product line.

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Serve as a pedagogical and content expert for secondary mathematics
  • Work closely with the Director of Instructional Design for 6-12 math and supporting staff on day-to-day maintenance and development of current and future 6-12 instructional resources
    • Support the development of state-specific digital forward math programs, focusing on cultural relevance, support for multilingual learners, and assisting students with differing learning needs
    • Design digital forward student learning experiences and teacher supports for middle school and high school math students using creative solutions to meet content needs
    • Support the Digital Content Team in the execution of the instructional vision of the program
    • Align, design, edit, and create content to meet the needs of new programs and projects
    • Understand and contribute to managing the relationships between content and standards to drive alignment and data reporting at scale
    • Support colleagues on the Instructional Design Team in their development, maintenance, and authoring work.
  • Understand and contribute to product vision to bring the instructional design of our research-backed and proven print program to life in a digital environment.
  • Identify opportunities and evidence-based best practices for supporting the various learners in a classroom, including learners who struggle, multilingual learners, and learners ready for more
  • Use excellent people skills to collaborate closely with the digital content and editorial team in the development of learning activities using various technology tools
  • Support cross-functional leadership with regard to operational and delivery best practices
  • Cultivate and maintain deep knowledge of the K-12 math market and customer values and needs
  • Participate in special products as required, prioritizing work alongside the Director of Instructional Design (6-12) Math
  • Provide focus and guidance for our ongoing DDI (data-driven improvement) work and new development in MATHia, in collaboration with the Research team.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK

You should bring a strong combination of several of the traits below. However, you do not have to have all these traits to be considered for this role.

  • 5+ years of 6-12 math classroom experience
  • BA/BS in Mathematics, Education, or other relevant field
  • Master's degree (preferred) in some combination of Mathematics, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, or another educational-related field and/or a specialist credential
  • Expertise-level knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and how they are interconnect
  • Strong foundational knowledge in evidence-based math instruction for secondary students, diverse learners, and multilingual learners
  • Strong background in product development within an Educational Technology setting
  • Strong command of 6-12 mathematics and pedagogy
  • Familiarity with a standards-driven educational market
  • High level of conceptual and strategic thinking and attention to detail to develop content and meet deadlines
  • A history of educational work centered on equitable outcomes for students most underserved by our educational system
  • An understanding of the concepts and impact of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Disposition to relentlessly solve problems rather than be stopped by them
