Job Description

Primary Objective of Position:

Panel Shop Assembler will be responsible for machining Industrial control enclosures, cutting and preparing other sub-assemblies, and kitting same for assembly. Incumbent shall also perform other mechanical assembly tasks as necessary, such as building shipping crates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Technical Skills
    • Have a full working knowledge of software and hardware used to operate Steinhauer CNC machines.
    • Follow all ModCenter operation work instructions.
    • Unpackage/repackage enclosures and mounting plates
    • Thoroughly Inspect the Enclosure/Mounting Plate before any machining is performed.
    • Report any Non-conformances/Damage and Take photos of same.
    • Securely fixture Enclosures and Mounting Plates before starting the machine.
    • Properly Deburr all machined penetrations in Enclosures and/or Mounting Plates.
    • Clean and inspect all completed Enclosures and Mounting Plates.
    • Maintain Schaedler Yesco safety procedures for operating ModCenter machine and working in ModCenter Solutions Shop.
    • Complete ModCenter Quality Report, and affix serial number to Enclosure/Mounting Plate
    • Scan in quality Report and File in proper Customer's enclosure/drawing file.
    • Have a full working knowledge of various small air/cordless power tools, such as angle Grinders, Stud Welding Guns, other basic hand tools.
    • Assemble mechanical /electrical hardware into electrical enclosures of various sizes.
    • Properly cut Plastic electrical wireway, metal Din Rail from customer supplied and/or SYD drawings.
    • Program and Operate a Lamicoid Engraving machine to make electrical tag/signage.
    • Program and Operate a Specialized Printing machine to produce Terminal markers, Wire Labels, and Cable label markers.
    • Be able to construct wooden shipping crates using power machinery such as a panel saw, powered mitre saw, and pneumatic staple gun..
      • Ensure the parts needed for daily operation are always available.
      • Aid in ordering and maintaining inventory of all consumables for the ModCenter machine.
    • Maintain Inventory of ModCenter (Steinhauer) Spare parts and keep the parts securely stowed.

  • Maintenance
    • Ensure the ModCenter machine is maintained and functional.
    • Clean daily machine and work areas of the machining/mechanical assembly side of the shop.
    • Perform all daily/weekly/monthly maintenance
    • Report Any and All broken/Defective tooling to the ModCenter Solutions Director.
    • Maintain maintenance log

  • Quality and Logistics
    • Update the system with the status of orders
    • Document finished jobs before shipping
    • Package and prepare completed orders for shipment

Knowledge / Experience / Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two or more years of work operating CNC and/or manual machine tools preferred
  • Must be able to properly and safely use hand and power tools to perform duties.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience with CAD drawing packages
  • Demonstrated ability to open, manipulate and save changes in .DXF files
  • Experience or training with manufacturing or machining tasks, which require the use of simple measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers, and vernier gages, preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of shop math, involving decimals, fractions and their application.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, job orders, and tool instructions for product specifications
  • Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined piece to specifications

  • Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions products weighing up to 50 or more pounds unassisted when stocking, loading, or unloading products. Typically stands, bends, stoops and/or crouches regularly to operate ModCenter machine, stock or deliver the product to a customer.
  • Operates forklift: proper training and certification required. May also use other material handling equipment.
  • Check and respond to e-mails, voice mail, and Eclipse messages continually throughout the day
  • Attend all required internal SYD training and meetings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
