Job Description

Under the direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor, the Registered Pharmacist is responsible for the preparation, dispensing and monitoring the appropriate use of medications for all patients, and for providing medication information to healthcare professionals and complies with all state, federal and JCAHO regulations. Patients serviced range in age from infancy through late adulthood.

  1. Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative criteria in order to make Abington Memorial Hospital the hospital of choice for Patients and Employees.
  2. Insures that the correct drug, dose, dosage form and interval are properly entered into the computer, prepared, and labeled so the correct medication is dispensed to the right patient.
  3. Reviews all medication orders and provides drug dosing information to physicians in order to provide optimal patient care regarding medications.
  4. Prepares injectable medications and intravenous solutions utilizing proper aseptic technique to ensure all IV products are aseptically prepared. (Does not apply to Relief Pharmacists).
  5. Checks all work performed by technical staff prior to the dispensing of medication in order to comply with Board of Pharmacy law and regulations.
  6. Ensures that all state, departmental and hospital policies and procedures are followed in order to comply with all Board of Pharmacy regulations, federal laws and JCAHO regulations.
  7. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

A. Experience: One yearsrsquo; previous experience with hospital pharmacy systems, chemotherapy, IV additives.

B. Education and Training: BS in Pharmacy from an accredited College ofPharmacy required.

C. License Certification Current, valid State of Pennsylvania registration.
