Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director of Operations (DOO) partners with a unique team of educators to create a culture of excellence for all simulation academic endeavors. They direct all operations and functions. These include directing the operations of the simulation and standardized patient programs. The DOO evaluates the Centerrsquo;s needs in areas of staffing, training, and physical resources for all simulation and Standardized Patient programming. The DOO is responsible for developing and initiating policies and procedures, preparing and managing the operating budget which includes standardized patients, simulation supplies and equipment and simulation expenses incurred by educational programs and external programs. Also, designs and implements simulations both with and without simulation materials and equipment and clinical teaching/learning that supports the core competencies of enterprise-wide educational programs. The DOO negotiates contracts with vendors and other institutions for programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs the operations of the standardized patient and simulation programs
  • Establishes and administers the budget (salaries, capital equipment, medical supplies,etc). Develops and maintains inventory database with cost delineation of supplies, equipment, and projects ongoing maintenance of equipment.
  • Directs all staff including recruitment, training, performance appraisals, and terminations of support staff and standardized patients.
  • Develops and refines procedures and processes of ongoing teaching and assessment activities. This includes implementing simulations and clinical teaching/learning in partnership with the co-directors.
  • Oversees enterprise-wide educational programs and simulation master schedule.
  • Collects and analyzes data including center utilization for both SP and Simulation programs, data for evaluation and revenue purposes.
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Oversees the training and evaluation of standardized patients.
  • Directs evaluation of program quality to determine areas of improvement.
  • Develops policies for and follows safety standards to maintain a safe environment for students and staff; support the use of proper body mechanics, and reports potential safety hazards.
  • Develops and maintains organizational policies and procedures including those associated with (related to) simulation accreditation bodies, federal, state and regulatory agency requirements or standards to ensure compliance.
  • Attends seminars, workshops and professional meetings related to job responsibilities including representation on a national level.
  • Participate in standardized patient research and scholarship activities.
  • Participate in Simulation research and scholarship activities
  • Negotiates contracts with simulation vendors and other external institutions for simulation and standardized patient programs to be held at the RCSSC.
  • Develops and maintains literature files related to simulation and issues taught during sessions
  • Directs the SPCSs in the development of forms for faculty to complete to obtain individualized simulator teaching points and measurable outcomes of case scenarios
  • Directs the SPCSs in the development and implementation of simulator research studies and coordinates data management and correspondence for each study.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelorrsquo;s Degree required. Masterrsquo;s degree preferred in clinical, education, social science.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

At least 3 years management experience preferred. Previous experience in academic setting and assessment using standardized patients and simulation preferred.
