General Description: Machinists are responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, and steam turbines; operate shop equipment. This work takes place in all areas of the refinery, outside exposed to the weather elements, heat, noise and vibration. The refinery processes involve hazardous and volatile materials under high temperatures and pressures. The work may take place at heights on vessels and towers and/or in confined spaces.

Assignment Duties:

  • Performing any and all work for which they are qualified, related to repairing, altering, fabricating, removing, installing, assembling, troubleshooting and servicing a wide variety of rotating processing equipment, such as pumps, compressors, motors, etc.
  • Performing close tolerance work on metal machining equipment such as lathes.
  • Maintaining and operating all equipment and tools to support and maintain required skills.
  • Sustaining a well-kept and orderly site in the performance of all work duties.
  • Working in a team environment and assisting other personnel in accomplishing tasks and major projects.
  • Must be able to wear SCBA during some aspects of the job.
  • Able to use our CMMS and capable of looking up spare parts, order stock material, insert condition reports, and add any asset notes as needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Physical Capabilities for outside facility walking, climbing, working at elevations Reaching/Carrying, Bending, Hand and Finger Dexterity, Pushing/Pulling, verbal and written communications in English, Visual Acuity, etc.

Work Hours:

  • Minimum 40 hours a week (8 hours a day) with frequent overtime, including weekends, Holidays and call outs.

Terms of Assignment:

  • As per the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Experience and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
  • Must be able to be Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) qualified (For more information, you can visit www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/index.shtm ).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits and instruction.
  • Three years of journeyman level experience with rotating equipment including pumps, seals, fans, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, steam turbines and gearboxes in an oil refinery, petrochemical plant or similar facility or four (4) years of U. S. Military service in a mechanical technician role.
  • Three years of experience with process operations or mechanical equipment with emphasis in troubleshooting, diagnosing, disassembly, inspection, repair, re-assembly and adjustment of valves, valve actuators, materials handling equipment.
