How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

This role requires a highly motivated, people-oriented person for the proactive, practical application of HSES commitments within ALAM operations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This individual will provide leadership in developing, implementing, improving and managing HSES policies, procedures, practices, and projects including nourishing a culture in which HSES is the highest priority. Individual has responsibility for HSES at multiple manufacturing and research & development locations and leads local HSES specialists team to meet ALAM's HSES objectives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical support for on-going HSES projects, problem solving, investigations including site inspections and audits, and activities;

  • Assist in developing an effective HSES communication process to make HSES priorities and performance visible;

  • Partners with Operations, R&D, Engineering, etc. to ensure safe and compliant ALAM operations;

  • Facilitates and participates in experimental run plan, new chemical assessment, job safety analysis, process hazard analysis and pre-startup safety review teams including the driving of inherently safer technology, preference for engineering solutions and 'doing it right the first time' concept;

  • Organizes and maintains HSES performance, compliance, policy and procedural information including electronic backup of critical information;

  • Works closely with research & development and production development for new chemical process introduction and scale-up

  • Partners with other research & development sites in identification of common opportunities and leverages the shared learning

  • Develops and implements industry best practice systems for an effective HSES program while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, reporting, HSES statistics and trend analysis;

  • Researches and keeps informed of pertinent information and developments with local, state and federal regulations;

  • Develops and maintains local agency relationships including Community Advisory Panel, security, emergency responders, etc.;

  • Works with HSES Technical subject matter experts (SME) to implement local improvements and changes to meet requirements;

  • Manages local site security requirements and improvements;

  • Involves & engages employees in developing HSES programs, processes and performance measures;

  • Monitors the completion of action items generated from HSES audits, inspections and incident investigations;

  • Provides on-the-floor HSES coaching and recognition; and

  • Assists with implementation and support of HSES Team responsibilities.

  • Manages and mentors HSES specialist team towards growth and meet their full potential in conducting their specific responsibilities

  • Successfully completes all assigned trainings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental or Occupational Safety, or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 5 years of applicable HSES work experience in chemical manufacturing or high-hazard environment

  • Passion for HSES as demonstrated by a strong commitment

  • Ability to influence others

  • A demonstrated commitment to a participative, solution-oriented work environment.

  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver training

  • Project management skills to include the ability to develop and implement HSES processes

  • Root cause investigation experience and skills to determine causes and drive changes to eliminate recurrence

  • Strong, engaging, people-centered leadership style

  • Proactive, assertive and ability to work with a sense of urgency

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency

  • High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem solving skills

  • Ability to travel locally;

  • Ability to globally, if needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training and certifications in OSHA, DOT, DHS and RCRA
