The RAND Israel Policy Chair

Established by The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and

The Diane and Guilford Glazer Foundation

Position Description

The RAND Corporation, a global leader in public policy research, is seeking a recognized scholar and dynamic leader to fill its newly endowed Chair in Israel Policy Studies. The Chair was established by generous gifts from The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and The Diane and Guilford Glazer Foundation, long time RAND supporters.

The Israel Policy Chairholder will undertake research on the critical factors that will influence Israel's future, with particular focus on long term growth, socio-economic development, domestic policy, and its relationship with the Region, the United States, and the world.

The Chairholder will develop and manage a research agenda on Israel's policies for sustainable growth, build partnerships with research institutes in Israel, organize symposia, develop exchange programs and joint research projects, and mentor Israel studies scholars at RAND. The contribution from the sponsor will significantly, but not entirely, fund the position. To supplement the support provided by the contribution, as well as to establish a flourishing program of Israel policy studies at RAND, the Chair will be required to develop a program of externally funded research.

The Chairholder will work collaboratively across disciplines with RAND researchers in fields such as economics, engineering, international relations, law, natural sciences, political science, psychology, sociology, national security, and statistics. This multidisciplinary approach to research and analysis is a hallmark of RAND research.

This chair position is a 5-year term position which may be renewable depending on the growth of Israel policy studies and external funding. Position responsibilities are expected to require approximately 50% of the Chairholder's time. The Chairholder will be expected to participate in research as a principal investigator or senior team member for the remaining 50%.

All research positions at RAND require excellent analytic skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing; the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; and a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity. In addition, the Chairholder is expected to have a strong relevant research record, will be expected to mentor analysts at RAND and the Pardee RAND Graduate School, and will have the opportunity to teach at the school.

The successful candidate will have proven program management, public speaking, published writing experience, and deep knowledge of Israel domestic policy issues. Experience that includes initiating and developing Israel studies programming, sponsored research, philanthropic fund-raising, and outreach is highly desirable.
