Opportunity Description

An immedidate opening is available for an internship position for a talented strategic marketing and communications professional eager to develop their skills to support the organization's mission. For a minimum of three months (6 months preferred), the Communications Intern will be involved in a range of projects and initiatives supporting the Brand, Communications and Marketing Team in the DC office. Specific projects will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate and support strategic communications research, strategy development and execution of initiatives
  • Research and write content for a variety of platforms and audiences, including blogs, newsletters, articles, presentations and speeches
  • Research and support the development of materials for media relations outreach
  • Draft key messaging, talking points, presentations and/or speeches for organization's senior leadership
  • Support curation of content written stories and videos and potential editing for distribution across platforms
  • Collaborate on strategic marketing partnership research and management.

This internship is intended for undergraduate and graduate students interested in a communications position for an international development and/or humanitarian organization. Experience and/or strong interest in child rights issues, will be preferred.

Key Relationships

The Communications Intern will work closely with the Brand, Communications and Marketing Team, including the Chief Marketing Officer. The intern will also coordinate and communicate with other teams including, Corporate Partnerships, Major Giving and the Executive Office. In addition, the intern may communicate with SOS Children's Villages country program and regional teams.

Qualifications

  • Must submit a writing sample with application and resume.
  • Currently enrolled as junior or senior undergraduate student or MA/MS student in communications-focused academic program;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Strong written and oral communications skills (English);
  • Experience with content development for social media and website a plus;
  • Ability to work independently and without close supervision;
  • Quick learner, able to rapidly absorb and distill new information;
  • Highly collaborative work style;
  • Creative thinker, effective communicator and active problem solver.

This is an unpaid internship, credit hours can be provided if applicable.
