ACARA Solutions and our client in Canonsburg, PA have a contract to hire after 90 days available

Design & Drafting Technician

  • Design/drafting with SolidWorks.
  • Performs detailed design and documentation of mechanical components or subsystems.
  • Manages own design sub-tasks in support of the duties within the project assigned.
  • Contributes to the design and documentation of semi-complex mechanical components as an active project team member.
  • Produces two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) CAD work product output for fabrication and assembly.
  • Generates mechanical designs considering material requirements and functional characteristics.
  • Generates and checks semi-complex to complex drawings.
  • Performs tolerance analysis studies as necessary.
  • Creates new or revises existing drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and bills of material for our products.
  • Determines to scale; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve product quality or facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standard engineering drafting practices and standards.
  • Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation.
  • Creates Engineering Change Notices detailing the changes to released designs, updates drawings/models/BOMs as needed, and routes change requests through the approval process.
  • Creates and revises documentation detailing assembly or testing.
  • May work with system management, including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
  • Writes technical documents, test procedures, installation procedures, and process documents.
  • Research to make recommendations to management for new vendors, products, or technical specifications.
  • Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
  • Research and interfaces with vendors on products that meet job design requirements.
  • Uses the Engineering Change database to implement changes in a design document, cutting costs where needed and recording changes needed to improve a product.
  • Works as an individual technical contributor or as part of the development team.
  • Provide work leadership to drafters / may manage a small team of drafters.
  • Open to new ideas, can serve as a champion for change, and acts to support change when directed by management.
  • Assists engineers in designing and developing complex and detailed layouts of printed circuit boards.
  • Participates in developing designs of new or modified high-density printed circuit boards.
  • May define design standards and configurations.
  • Works from preliminary schematics, part lists, and basic description of the board function, configuration, and arrangement as defined by engineering.
  • Instructs the drafter in the completion of drawings and specifications.
  • Manages time to ensure an assignment's completion.
  • Works within the trade space defined (cost/schedule/technology).
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience using current strategic CAD tools such as SolidWorks.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of material requirements, fabrication techniques, and manufacturability concepts.
  • Knowledge of design principles and techniques, including computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Knowledge of strategic CAD and file management tools.
  • Knowledge of design documentation standards (ASME Y14.5M, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Knowledge of mechanical stress, structural, thermal, and tolerance analysis.
  • Possesses problem-solving and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and applies personal talent to practical solutions.
  • Ability to weigh risks and make progress in the face of uncertainty.
  • Willingly takes on problems and commits to solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
